"Our point here is that your purposes for writing are always more complex than the simple desire to meet an assignment deadline"
I chose this line out of the text because it stood out to me, especially the segment that says "...always more complex..". I honestly can not remember when my writing was more complex than the simple desire to meet an assignment deadline. Besides the daily text messaging and facebook comments, my sole purpose for writing is to meet an assignment deadline. Maybe, it was just a high school thing or I can not recall other reasons to write.
"Good writing can vary from closed to open forms of prose."
I chose this line out of the text because it was very thought provoking, I never thought of the broad range of open and close writing. I thought the example of the A Letter to the Editor by David Rockwood and A Festival of Rain Thomas Merton portrayed close and open forms of writing extremely well.
